The Thirteenth Annual Servant Leadership Day
Wednesday, February 5, 2025
The Thirteenth Annual Servant Leadership Day will be held on Wednesday, April 2, and is a celebration of Seton Hall University’s commitment to forming students as “servant leaders in a global society.” Sponsored by the Center for Vocation and Servant Leadership, and the Office of Mission & Ministry, it is made possible by the generous benefaction of Colleen and Hank D’Alessandro, Regent. Its purpose is to provide inspiration to the Center’s Servant Leader Scholars and to all the University constituencies dedicated to the principles and practice of “servant leadership.”
To celebrate this event, all members of the Seton Hall community are invited to a talk given by Andrew Simon, Ph.D., PsyD, from 4 to 5 p.m, Wednesday, April 2, in the Chancellor’s Suite, Student Center, lower level. His topic is “Leadership as Service in Action.”
Simon will explore the essence of servant leadership as an expression of good and virtuous action. This presentation will emphasize that leadership is not tied to a formal role but is rooted in our ability to be fully present and responsive to the needs of others, regardless of one’s position or background. By examining our own values and beliefs, we uncover barriers to genuine service, allowing us to act with greater commitment and purpose.
Professor Simon will share insights into how self-awareness fosters meaningful connections and creates the foundation for actions rooted in integrity and the pursuit of the good. This talk will invite participants to see leadership as a way of being—one that influences others not through authority, but through the everyday choices that reflect who we are and how we serve.
Simon teaches at the Psychology department and is a fellow at the Leadership and Professional Development at Seton Hall University. His research and consulting on leadership, team performance, and organizational effectiveness span business, government, education and the non-profit sectors. Simon has held senior roles in executive education programs at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and served as the 2023 President of the International Council of Psychologists.
