Providing for Our Students' Basic Needs
Helping to meet the basic needs of our students has a direct impact on the overall well-being and their ultimate academic success. That is the purpose of this website – to connect students with the resources, both on-campus and off-campus, to help them when they need it.
The Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE) launched BasicNeeds.nj.gov, which provides a directory of statewide resources for institutions to help meet their students’ basic needs – from food and housing to childcare, transportation, and more.

Financial Security
- FAFSA
The FAFSA form is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. This form is used to apply for Financial Aid. studentaid.gov Once complete the Office of Financial Aid will determine your eligibility and create an award letter which can be viewed on PirateNet. - Financial Aid Appeals – special circumstances
A special circumstance form can be submitted to the Financial Aid Office for particular situations detailed on the form. Once submitted, a recalculation is completed if deemed appropriate and additional aid is offered when possible. - Seton Hall Scholarships

Elm Select is a portal designed for Seton Hall University, to assist our students in comparing different Alternative Lenders to each other. This will allow families to make a more informed decision on the appropriate loan for them. SHU will accept any Approved loan that we receive, as we do not promote any lender over another. www.elmselect.com
Mental, Physical and Spiritual Wellness
- CAPS
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides free year-round counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, and referral services to Seton Hall students. - Behavioral Intervention Team
The Behavioral Intervention Team is an interdepartmental working group that receives and responds to concerns about individual students. Make a referral to the Team by emailing BIT@shu.edu. - Campus Ministry
Campus Ministry offers pastoral support and spiritual guidance for any student and Seton Hall community member. If you are in need, please contact (973) 761-9545 or come to the Lower Level of Boland Hall and a staff member will be happy to assist you. - DOVE
DOVE provides opportunities for engagement in community service. If you would like to get involved in helping others during their time of need, while also enjoying a shared experience with other loving and compassionate students, please come sign up in the Lower Level of Boland Hall.

Health Services helps students reach their optimal level of well being by providing a wide range of cost-effective and preventative urgent care services in a friendly professional environment. - Richie Regan Recreation Center
Open to all students, the Rec Center is a great place for physical activity, to work out, to take fitness classes, or get involved with intramural or club sports.

Public Safety & Security patrols campus and the area immediately around the campus 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They can be reached by phone at the number above, officers offer escorts across campus upon request, and information about more services can be found here. - Seton Hall Shuttle & Safe Ride
Seton Hall Shuttle is the University's shuttle service with stops throughout the village of South Orange.
Safe Ride is free, reliable escort service provided by Public Safety within the immediate vicinity of the University not on the Seton Hall Shuttle route. - RAD
The RAD (Rape Aggression Defense) course is a self defense program designed to empower women by educating them about risk awareness, risk recognition, risk avoidance and risk reduction. The course is offered on campus at least once each semester. - Report an Incident of Sexual Violence
Seton Hall University is committed to maintaining a positive learning, working and living environment. When sexual harassment or sexual violence has occurred and the University is made aware, steps will be taken to end the harassment or violence, prevent its reoccurrence, and address its effects.
