Seton Hall Rises Again in U.S. News 2027 Rankings

Seton Hall University rose two spots in the U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges 2027 rankings, reaching No. 156 among National Universities. The University also ranks No. 21 among Catholic National Universities and remains tied for seventh among New Jersey National Universities. Seton Hall also earned a strong national showing in the new “Earnings by Major” measure, ranking No. 56 among National Universities.

The latest recognition reinforces Seton Hall’s strong standing among national peers as changes to the Carnegie Classification have reshaped the National Universities category. Seton Hall remains an R2 “high research activity” institution recognized by the Carnegie Foundation and the American Council on Education (ACE). The R2 “high research activity” designation continues to place Seton Hall among the nation’s top institutions.

Continued Strength in the National Landscape

Seton Hall moved from No. 158 to No. 156 nationally this year, sharing the ranking with 12 other institutions, including fellow Catholic universities Duquesne University, the University of Portland and the University of St. Thomas.

The University ranked No. 56 among National Universities for “Earnings by Major.” Introduced in the 2027 Best Colleges rankings, the measure compares the earnings of graduates with those of graduates from other National Universities in the same fields of study using federal College Scorecard data. The result places Seton Hall among the nation’s best on a new measure designed to assess the career value institutions deliver to graduates, evidence of the strong outcomes associated with a Seton Hall education.

Seton Hall also earned national recognition for several undergraduate academic programs. Undergraduate Business ranked No. 116 nationally, Undergraduate Nursing ranked No. 115, Undergraduate Psychology ranked No. 129 and Undergraduate Economics ranked No. 185.

Among the Top 25 Catholic National Universities

Seton Hall ranks No. 21 among Catholic National Universities, again placing among the top 25 Catholic institutions in the country.

Its continued standing among leading Catholic national universities reflects Seton Hall’s distinctive mission and commitment to academic excellence, student success and the Catholic Intellectual Tradition.

Among New Jersey’s Leading National Universities

Seton Hall remains tied for seventh among New Jersey National Universities, sharing the No. 156 national ranking with Montclair State University. Only six New Jersey institutions rank ahead of Seton Hall, all of which are among the nation’s top 100.

The latest rankings come as implementation continues on Inspiring Great Minds to Greater Purpose, 2025-30, Seton Hall’s strategic plan. The plan advances priorities across academic excellence, student success, institutional distinction and the University’s Catholic mission as Seton Hall builds on the progress of its first year of implementation.

A Year of National Recognition

The U.S. News & World Report ranking follows strong national recognition for Seton Hall in The Princeton Review’s 2027 rankings, particularly in areas reflecting the student experience, support and engagement.

Seton Hall earned the No. 1 ranking for Best College Radio Station, with WSOU 89.5 FM again recognized as a defining experiential learning opportunity for students. The University also ranked No. 5 nationally for Best Student Support and Counseling Services.

Student engagement and school spirit earned additional recognition, with Seton Hall ranking No. 13 for Students Love Their School Teams and No. 20 for Most Active Student Government.

Together, the U.S. News & World Report and Princeton Review results recognize Seton Hall across measures of academic standing, student support, leadership, engagement and campus life, reinforcing the University’s position among leading national and Catholic institutions.
