Seton Hall University Honors Veterans Day with Commemorative Events

Military of The United States of America

Seton Hall University will host a series of activities on Monday, November 11, in honor of Veterans Day, celebrating the service and sacrifice of the university’s veteran community and all who have served in the U.S. military. The events are part of the university's long-standing tradition of paying tribute to veterans, inviting students, faculty, staff and alumni to reflect on the contributions of military members both past and present.

The day will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a Veterans Day Flag Raising Ceremony outside the University Center. Led by Seton Hall’s ROTC Color Guard, the ceremony will include the symbolic raising of the American flag, acknowledgment and invocation to honor those who have served in the armed forces. Members of the university community are encouraged to gather and show their support for veterans.

“On this Veterans Day, we honor the courage and sacrifice of those who have served. To those within our graduate community who are veterans of the armed forces, you embody resilience and dedication, continuing to pave the way for a brighter future,” said Christopher Cuccia, associate provost for Academic and Graduate Affairs and Institutional Research. “Thank you for your service and for bringing your unique experiences to our university."

At 8 a.m. the university will hold a Veterans Day Mass in the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception. This reflective service will offer prayers for veterans and their families, recognizing the immense sacrifices made by those in the military. Attendees will have the opportunity to join in solidarity and offer support for those who have served, especially veterans within the Seton Hall community.

Throughout the day, campus members may participate in various activities including signing a commemorative Veterans Day banner to provide words of thanks and honor to the military community; decorating the University Green by dedicating an American flag and yellow ribbon to a military veteran they know; and enjoying complimentary refreshments in the University Center Event Room.

“Servant Leadership is the foundation of Seton Hall University. Recognition of the sacrifice our veterans made to serve our country should never be overlooked. While we acknowledge the service of our veterans, I would like to especially recognize those Seton Hall Pirates that served, you have our utmost gratitude,” said Winston Roberts, assistant vice president of Student Services and dean of Student Engagement.

To continue the celebrations, on November 12, the United States Military Veterans All Stars, in collaboration with the Seton Hall University Arts Council, will present a lively program of beloved standards and patriotic tunes in tribute to U.S. veterans of every generation. As part of the Jazz n’ Hall Concert Series, selection of this year’s programming was done in accordance with the Seton Hall University Arts Council’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion cultural programming theme of ‘Voices & Visibility’ and features work from and about groups that have been otherwise historically underrepresented. This event is open to the public.

Seton Hall’s Veterans Day celebrations were in collaboration with the Office of Graduate Affairs, the Division of Student Services, Division of University Relations and Army ROTC Pirate Battalion as a reminder of the university’s ongoing commitment to honoring and assisting those who have served the country.
