Releasing the Doves: Philly Mission

Release the Doves group pictureOver the past academic year, the Division of Volunteer Efforts (DOVE) led four mission trips to Philadelphia, continuing its longstanding commitment to faith-based service and solidarity with marginalized communities.

As part of DOVE’s “Releasing the Doves” initiative, these trips invite students to step outside their daily routines and encounter poverty through direct service, simple living and meaningful relationships. Rooted in the Catholic tradition, the program emphasizes the “ministry of presence,” encouraging students to build compassion and understanding through accompaniment.

Volunteers contributed to the Inn’s unique “restaurant-style” meal service, where they welcomed guests, waited tables and cleaned while fostering dignity and human connection.

DOVE’s partnership with St. Francis Inn spans more than a decade, with hundreds of Seton Hall students participating in service opportunities that not only meet immediate needs but also transform the hearts of those who serve.

These experiences continue to shape compassionate leaders dedicated to living out Seton Hall’s mission of servant leadership.

Through these successful Philadelphia mission trips, DOVE reaffirms its mission to inspire students to serve with humility, build authentic relationships and encounter Christ in those they accompany.
