NCAA Mental Health Best PracticesAlan Lorenz, M.D., Rochester Institute of Technology Initially published in 2016, revised in 2020, and updated with anticipated release in January 2024, the NCAA Inter-Association Consensus Document: Mental Health Best Practices for Understanding and Supporting Student-Athlete Mental Wellness provides association-wide recommendations to support and promote student-athlete mental health and well-being. The update is informed by consensus-based recommendations from the NCAA Mental Health Advisory Group, which was created by the NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports. The MHAG is comprised of membership representatives and representatives from leading mental health and higher education organizations. From this presentation you can expect to learn about the history of the Mental Health Best Practices legislation, the role of the Mental Health Advisory Group in recommending updates to the document and anticipated key changes to the document. |
