From Campus to Career: How Seton Hall’s Partnership with Charles Schwab is Creating Opportunities

Seton Hall University’s close proximity to Manhattan has played an important role in expanding career possibilities for students. Thanks to an exciting partnership between Seton Hall’s Stillman School of Business, Athletics Department and Career Center and Charles Schwab’s Flatiron Branch, students now could gain firsthand experience with a leading financial services company—and maybe even land a job in the process.

The collaboration has proven to be a transformative opportunity for Seton Hall students in many ways. Through Schwab Shadow Day, students gain an insider’s perspective by touring Schwab’s New York offices, exploring workspaces and engaging in panel discussions with local Schwab professionals. In fact, Schwab’s Flatiron Branch has hosted four Branch Shadow Days in recent semesters.

What makes shadow days so special? In addition to the office tours, providing students with a firsthand look at Schwab’s dynamic workplace environment, are the expert panels and networking luncheon. Beyond office tours, students participate in expert panels and a networking luncheon, where they engage with professionals on career growth, investing principles and industry trends.

Stillman alumnus Frank DeVito ‘14, who currently serves as the Branch Manager at Schwab’s Flatiron and Upper West Side locations, knows firsthand the value and potential of Seton Hall students. “Hosting Seton Hall students has been one of the most motivating things I’ve done in my career,” says DeVito. “It gets me excited and gives me the opportunity to lead and mentor. Seeing these students’ passion and ambition makes me proud to be a Pirate and to give back to the Seton Hall community.”

Additionally, the collaboration between Seton Hall’s Athletics and Charles Schwab at the annual Student-Athlete Networking Forum, held at the Prudential Center, has had a significant impact on our student-athletes. As Athletic Director Bryan Felt stated, “The ability for our student-athletes to cultivate stronger industry connections and gain career advice from Schwab professionals will prove invaluable to their future.”

Charles Schwab has also participated in Stillman School of Business’ annual Finance Networking Forum and the Career Center’s annual Career Fairs – which laid the foundation for interest in branch shadow days. 

These one-of-a-kind experiences provide students with financial literacy, career-building skills and an insider’s perspective on what it takes to succeed in the financial world. The results speak for themselves: students have already secured internship and full-time opportunities at Schwab. Mark Schild, dean of Seton Hall’s Stillman School of Business, recognizes the value in these connections. “The proximity to Manhattan is an incredible advantage, and we try to leverage that as often as possible for our students,” he says. “Frank DeVito’s dedication to Seton Hall students is something we truly value.”
