Jonathan Gyurko (pronounced GUR-ko) is President and Co-Founder of the Association of College and University Educators, or “ACUE” (pronounced A-cue).
Dr. Gyurko is also an Assistant Adjunct Professor at Teachers College, Columbia University, where he teaches in the Politics and Education program.
His new book, Publicization: How Public and Private Interests Can Reinvent Education for the Common Good, has been praised as "Simultaneously passionate and pragmatic… [and] a rich exploration of why public schools are so valued and what it will take to make them live up to their promise."
ACUE, now in its tenth year, prepares and certifies college professors in effective teaching practices. To date, over 42,000 professors working at more than 500 institutions have earned an ACUE credential. Rigorous studies have confirmed: college students are more engaged, learn more, stay in college, and feel better prepared for their careers when taught by ACUE Certified professors.
A vocal champion for excellence in every college class, Dr. Gyurko’s writings have been published by the Chronicle of Higher Education, Inside Higher Ed, Times Higher Education and elsewhere. He began his career as an English and drama teacher at Tiger Kloof School in South Africa, during the dynamic years following the end of Apartheid.
