New Student Welcome Weekend Schedule

New Student Welcome Weekend is a mandatory in-person event series for all incoming first-year and transfer students. 

See below for a tentative schedule of events, the dates have been updated but the activities are subject to change. For any immediate questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to our support team at Orientation@shu.edu.


Welcome Weekend 2026 will take place Friday, August 28 to Sunday, August 30 with new student move-in taking place on Wednesday, August 26 and Thursday, August 27.

Reminders for new students:

  • For those students living on campus, the Department of Residence Life will send specific information in August about the move-in day schedule.
  • Students will be pre-assigned to small groups based on their University Life course section and Peer Advisor assignment.
  • Welcome Weekend is intended for students only, there will be no formal programs for family members.

Wednesday, August 26

New Student Move-In Day!
The Department of Residence Life is excited to welcome our resident students to campus. Each residential student will be assigned a specific time to come to the South Orange campus to move into their new residence hall! Move-In, Game On: Giant Board Game Night

After a full-day of move-in, it’s time to relax!  Join the Office of Student Engagement (OSE) and unwind with giant board games and delicious treats.

Thursday, August 27

Join the Office of Student Engagement (OSE) for a moon-lit movie night outside on the Green featuring 90s rom com classic, 10 Things I Hate About You. Popcorn will be provided. Bring your blanket!

Friday, August 28

Breakfast
Enjoy breakfast before you start your day. The cafeteria opens at 7 a.m. Starbucks (University Center) and Dunkin Donuts (Walsh Library) open at 7:30 a.m. Plan accordingly to you are on time to meet your Peer Advisor (PA).

Learn from Fr. Nick Sertich about Seton Hall’s founding vision, the life and legacy of our patron saint, Mother Seton, and how our Catholic identity and mission inform and shape all that we do and are as a University community.

SCREAM Theater

This traveling theater made up of college students, uses interactive, informative skits to educate audiences on issues of interpersonal violence, specifically on sexual assault, domestic and dating violence, stalking, sexual harassment, and bullying.

The Art of Vibrant Living: Where Difference & Belonging Dance
Jubilee Hall, Auditorium
Meet Mohammed Bilal – musician, poet, and writer. You may recognize him from MTV's Real World III: San Francisco. Join Mohammed as he shares his insights for how we can all communicate and connect across difference.

Academic Social 
Join your academic department for an afternoon social. You will get to meet Deans and faculty from your program and connect with your future classmates!

Enjoy dinner on your own in the cafeteria. The cafeteria hours are 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Board plans have started, so students with meal plans can swipe into the cafeteria. If you are a commuter student without a meal plan, you will pay the dinner rate at the door. 

SAB Presents: Camp Pirate

Join the Student Activities Board (SAB) on the Green and Pirate Plaza for a retro themed camp night on the beach. Enjoy fire pits, photo ops, activities, music, and ice cream!

A Better High with Dr. Matt Bellace

This high energy session discusses navigating the “natural highs” and "lows" of life and delivers important messages about resilience, positive social support and making healthy choices. Matt engages the audience with storytelling, comedy and audience participation – so be ready to part of the show!

The Pirate Way: Feel empowered to be an active bystander

Here at Seton Hall, Pirates help Pirates. This session will give you the tools and knowledge to feel empowered and prepared to be an active bystander. Together we can create a community where everyone can thrive, feel safe and respected.

Spirit 101: Everything You Need to Know to Show Your Pirate Pride!
Bethany Hall, Room ABC
Join the Seton Hall Pep Band, Cheerleaders and Sapphires as well as members of the men's and women's basketball teams as they teach you everything you need to know about being a Seton Hall Pirate. They'll go over the Fight Song and Alma Mater, as well as important basketball traditions so that you are ready from tip-off until the final buzzer!

Life on the Green
University Green
The University Green is the campus staple!  Come enjoy all the Green has to offer with lawn games, sweet treats, and great community.

This is only the beginning of your journey as a Pirate, and at Seton Hall we persevere with the motto “Hazard Zet Forward”. Join your classmates on the Galleon Lawn for a group photo in your Blue Day shirts before heading onward passing campus landmarks on your walk to Convocation.

New Student Convocation
2p.m. | Richie Regan Recreation Center, Field House
Convocation is designed as an opportunity to reflect on the significance of your educational endeavor and the commitment of the University to support you in the pursuit of your goals. This is your first formal academic ceremony at the University.

Blue Day Carnival
3 p.m. | University Green
The annual Blue Day Carnival is a time to bring students together for fun with new friends on the Green. Enjoy a fun-filled afternoon with games, inflatables, activities, and of course classic boardwalk treats!
