The Rationality of Religious Belief - Philosophers Speak Distinguished Lecture

On Wednesday, March 18th, 2015 from 5 - 6:15 p.m. in the UC Chancellor’s Suite, the Philosophy Department will feature the Philosophers Speak distinguished lecture series. This lecture brings to campus Dr. Bryan Frances. Reflecting on the rationality of religious belief, Dr. Frances will explain and evaluate the reasons “Why Philosophers Take Religion Seriously without Evidence.”
Dr. Frances obtained his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Minnesota and earned his MA in Theoretical Physics from the University of Southern California. He has taught at Fordham University and the University of Leeds. Dr. Frances has an extensive list of influential publications in epistemology, metaphysics, philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, and philosophy of religion. These publications include the critically acclaimed book Skepticism Comes Alive (Oxford University Press, 2005) and more recent articles on skepticism and disagreement, and on the epistemology of religious belief.
