The Ninth Annual Servant Leadership Day will be held on Thursday, April 15, and is a celebration of Seton Hall University's commitment to forming students as "servant leaders in a global society." Sponsored by the Center for Vocation and Servant Leadership, and the Office of Mission & Ministry, it is made possible by the generous benefaction of Colleen and Hank D'Alessandro, Regent. Its purpose is to provide inspiration to the Center's Servant Leader Scholars and to all the University constituencies dedicated to the principles and practice of "servant leadership."
To celebrate this event, all members of the Seton Hall community are invited to a talk given by Reginald Lewis, on Thursday, April 15, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., via Microsoft Teams. His topic is "Greenleaf's Best Test® of a Servant-Leader."
The Ninth Annual Servant Leadership Day will be held on Thursday, April 15, and is a celebration of Seton Hall University's commitment to forming students as "servant leaders in a global society."
Robert Greenleaf, founder of the modern movement of Servant Leadership, created the ultimate measure of one's impact as a servant-leader by raising several questions that formed his Best Test: "Do those served grow as persons? Do they, while being served, become healthier, wiser, freer, and more autonomous, and more likely themselves to become servants? And what is the effect on the least privileged in society? Will they benefit or at least not be further deprived?"
Servant Leadership embodies the Christian value of serving God by serving others. This talk will invite all participants to gauge their service to others by reflecting on the tangible ways in which lives are made better.
Reginald Lewis recently joined the Robert K. Greenleaf Center as its inaugural Executive Director of the Center’s new home at Seton Hall University. He also serves as Adjunct Professor in the University Core. Mr. Lewis brings an extensive background in the philanthropic, non-profit, state and municipal government, and higher education sectors to his current roles. He holds a Masters in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago.
Mr. Lewis will build on the Center's 56-year history to advance the awareness, understanding, and practice of Servant Leadership. Among new program areas under development are included the annual Robert K. Greenleaf Public Policy Lecture, and the Center's Next Generation Initiative, which will introduce high school and campus leaders throughout the country to the principles and practice of Servant Leadership. These objectives align well with Seton Hall's mission and long- standing tradition of shaping a more just and caring society.
