Fifth Annual Humanities Colloquium Features Leonard Cassuto

The fifth annual Humanities Colloquium, “How to Write Well, and Why We Must,” will
take place on February 12 from 5 - 6 p.m. in Bethany Hall A. The speaker will be Leonard
Cassuto, professor of English at Fordham University and author of Academic Writing as if Readers Matter (2024).
In this talk, Cassuto will offer practical advice on writing that is clear, engaging and reader-centered, with special attention to teaching academic writing across disciplines and in the age of AI. The first 50 registrants will receive a free copy of Academic Writing as if Readers Matter, and the talk will be followed by a book signing. Registration is being accepted through the University Calendar.
Leonard Cassuto is the author or editor of nine books on American literature and culture, including Academic Writing as if Readers Matter (2024). He writes the long-running “Graduate Adviser” column for the Chronicle of Higher Education and is the co-author of The New PhD and The Graduate School Mess. His work spans literary studies, journalism and cultural criticism, with writing appearing in venues such as The New York Times and Salon. His book Hard-Boiled Sentimentality was nominated for the Edgar and Macavity Awards.
