Community Expectations

The MLK Honors Leadership Program community at Seton Hall University is seriously committed to developing servant leaders who can develop new paradigms that will yield social and cultural change. The Program Director, listed below, can answer all additional questions.

Each applicant will need two separate recommendations that are focused on your merits to receive the Dr. Martin Luther King Scholarship specifically. Throughout your participation in the MLK Leadership Program, participants will be responsible for the following:

  • MLK Community Bi Weekly meetings. Friday 1 - 2:30 p.m.
  • MLK Orientation: Last weekend in July (Saturday morning through Sunday lunch
  • Must maintain a 3.0 (the cumulative for your MLK peer group is 3.5 and honorary society entrance)
  • Must perform min. 20 hours of community service per semester. (Encouraged to complete100 hours per twelve months for United States Presidential citation)
  • Must attend annual retreat last week end (Friday –Sunday) in September
  • Must take the MLK Honors Seminar in the spring semester of the first year 
  • Will function on committees to plan campus/off campus programming
  • Will eventually function as the chair of a campus or off campus program
  • Must produce a “magnum opus” (a great work demonstrated through developing a community project or a scholarly paper dedicated to the pursuit of a social justice issue) during the four year period.
