Take Heart. Take Action.

The Division of Volunteer Efforts (DOVE) is one aspect of Seton Hall University's response to the ongoing call for social justice in our world. Our aim is to raise the awareness of the Seton Hall University community to social injustice through direct involvement in serving others. This service stems from our desire to affirm the dignity of all people and to live as Christ taught us by putting our faith into action.

Pirates Unite for Disaster Relief

As a University and a faith community, we are called on to respond to the needs of others, particularly during difficult times. We have witnessed, and have often experienced, the impact of catastrophic emergencies, from hurricanes, to wars, to public health crises. We feel a need to come together as a community, to do something to help heal the hearts and ease the suffering of our brothers and sisters in some small way. And we can. Our faith, our conscience, our humanity remind us to act, and that anything we do can make a difference.

To aid those whose lives have been devastated by the severe earthquake that struck southern Turkey and Syria on February 6, please join fellow Setonians in supporting Catholic Relief Services. Focusing on international aid, Catholic Relief Services provides food, shelter and medication to those in need. With our help, earthquake victims and others impacted by disasters around the world will have more of the life-giving supplies they so desperately need. When we act selflessly to share our blessings, we become a force for good. Please be generous with your assistance and your prayers for the victims who are struggling to rebuild their homes, their communities and their lives.

On campus, students and student groups that wish to organize fundraisers should contact Michelle Peterson, director of the Division of Volunteer Efforts (DOVE), who will coordinate the response. She can be reached at divisionofvolunteerefforts@shu.edu and (973) 761-9702.

We'd also like to remind everyone that CAPS counselors are available to anyone on campus for emotional support and resources.
