Academic Accommodations
Once a student is fully registered with DSS, they need to request their accommodation letters within AIM each semester. Once the student submits their request for accommodation letters in AIM, DSS will send the accommodation letter directly to faculty and the student. It is the student’s responsibility to let the professor know when they need to utilize an accommodation. For example, a student may need to use 50% extended time on an exam they have coming up. Students have the option to use their 50% extended time, or they can opt out of using the accommodation if they prefer. Because students have the choice of when to use their accommodations, it is imperative for the student to notify the professor when they plan to use their accommodations. DSS recommends reaching out to the professor about testing accommodations a week in advance so that the professor has time to confirm the accommodation with the student, as well as submit an exam request within 3 academic days if they need to be proctored at DSS.
Regarding any classroom accommodations, students must discuss with their faculty to ensure that the faculty member is aware of what the student may need.
If a student feels they need to update their accommodation plan, they must contact DSS to schedule a meeting with a staff member. If a student feels that there is a concern related to accommodation implementation in a course, they also need to contact DSS to discuss it further.
