Internship Eligibility
Seton Hall University has established specific requirements for students seeking internships, including professional and ethical expectations for identifying and accepting internships.
To be eligible for an internship, you must:
- Complete at least 30 college credits. Transfer students must complete at least one full semester at Seton Hall University before participating in an approved internship.
- Maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA. Some academic programs may have higher cumulative GPA expectations for credit-bearing internships.
- Meet the internship duration and hour requirements. During the fall and spring semesters, internships generally require a minimum of 15 hours per week for at least 10 consecutive weeks. Summer and winter internships may follow an alternative schedule based on the length of the academic term and applicable program requirements.
The Career Center advisors, in collaboration with faculty internship advisors, will determine whether the description meets the University’s criteria, including a level of responsibility that allows students to develop professional skills.
The sponsoring organization will need to provide progressive responsibilities over time if an intern remains with the organization for an additional semester. Please note that some credit-bearing internships also require the organization’s supervisor to fill in an evaluation for a course grade.
Students who find an internship before completing these steps should contact The Career Center immediately upon receiving an offer to ensure the internship meets University standards.
The University also requires all students to record their internships on 12twenty.
To record an internship, please follow the steps below.
- Log into 12twenty through PirateNet
- Click Experiential Learning in the left-hand navigation menu
- Select + New Experience
- Search for and select your Employer (or add manually if not listed)
- Include College at Seton Hall University
- Select the appropriate Experiential Learning Type from the dropdown menu
- Complete all remaining required fields and submit your experience for review
- Review all information and click Save
- Click Submit for approval
This requirement applies whether students earn credit and regardless of how they obtained the internship.
Once the internship is recorded in 12twenty, students may receive an email from The Career Center that requires further follow-up.
