Seton Hall Announces 2026–27 Faculty Innovation Grants

Seton Hall University’s Teaching, Learning and Technology Center (TLTC), in partnership with the Faculty Senate IT Committee and the Center for Faculty Development, invites proposals for the 2026–27 Faculty Innovation Grants (FIGs). The grants provide faculty with funding, resources and support to develop innovative projects that advance teaching, learning and research across the University. 

Aligned with the Innovation Hub and the University’s 2025–30 Strategic Plan: Inspiring Great Minds to Greater Purpose, this year’s program focuses on purposeful and sustainable uses of emerging technologies. Projects should foster innovative teaching practices, create transformative learning experiences and demonstrate potential for broader impact across programs, departments or the University community. 

The 2026–27 program emphasizes seven focus areas: 

• AI in teaching and learning: responsible use of artificial intelligence for student engagement, assessment and digital literacy. 
• Experiential and maker learning: hands-on learning using Innovation Hub tools such as 3D printing, robotics, podcasting, augmented/virtual reality and fabrication. 
• Alternative and authentic assessment: approaches that emphasize creativity, critical thinking and real-world application. 
• Digital storytelling and media creation: student projects using videos, podcasts, graphics and interactive media, including tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud. 
• Inclusive and equitable innovation: technology-driven approaches that support accessibility, universal design for learning and equitable student engagement. 
• Data-informed teaching and learning: analytics, dashboards and visualization tools that enhance teaching practice and support student success. 
• Interdisciplinary projects: projects that combine technologies or use the Innovation Hub’s content creation studios for interdisciplinary learning, design thinking, experimentation or collaborative problem-solving.

Funding Structure 

Faculty may apply individually or as part of an interdisciplinary team. Faculty Innovation Grants may include a faculty stipend and funding for specialized project materials, student project materials, professional development and other approved expenses. The total amount awarded will be determined by the Review Committee based on available funding. 

Applicants do not need previous experience with the proposed technology. Training and consultation will be provided as part of the grant program. Projects must include a clear instructional, research or student-learning component and a plan for assessing effectiveness, with consideration given to accessibility, student privacy, safety and responsible technology use. 

Faculty selected for the program will develop, implement, assess and share their projects from October 2026 through April 2027. The grant cycle will conclude with an April Faculty Innovation Grant Showcase, where participants will present their work through presentations, demonstrations, posters, student-created media and interactive experiences. Awardees who complete the FIG process will also receive a Faculty Innovation Grant Awardee digital badge. 

Timeline 

Proposals are due by September 18, 2026, with award notifications issued by October 12, 2026. Projects will run from October 2026 through April 30, 2027.
