Sneak Peek into National Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Laptop with seton hall logoCybersecurity threats are everywhere, from phishing emails and data breaches to device vulnerabilities that put personal and financial information at risk. To keep the Seton Hall community safe, the Department of Information Technology is offering training, interactive events and prize opportunities throughout October as part of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

Learn and Earn with Security Awareness Training

A big part of this year’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month is the IT Security Awareness Training, an online module that covers common phishing scams, device security and account protection. It provides real-life examples of cyber threats and how to handle them. Completing the training earns you a digital badge you can share on LinkedIn or add to your resume to show employers you are security aware and up to date on today’s risks. Plus, finishing the module unlocks special benefits at upcoming cybersecurity campus events, giving you extra chances to win prizes. Log in with your PirateNet credentials to begin the IT Security Awareness Training today and stay protected.

Campus Events and Raffle Entries

Cybersecurity Awareness Month brings a series of engaging in-person activities to Seton Hall’s South Orange campus. From 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on September 29–30, October 2, October 9, October 20–21, October 23, and October 27–28, the IT Security team will host interactive quiz tables in the University Center. Participants can test their cybersecurity knowledge, spin a prize wheel, and earn raffle entries for prizes such as wireless earbuds, noise-cancelling headphones, a portable monitor, and more.

A special pop-up table will also take place during Homecoming Weekend on Saturday, October 4, from noon–2 p.m. on The Green. This session offers double raffle entries, and certain questions come with bonus multipliers for even greater chances to win.

Extra Entries with Security Awareness Training

Your Security Awareness Training badge gives you an edge in the raffle:

  • Complete the training in September:  Earn 10 raffle entries automatically.
  • Show your badge in September at an IT Security table: Get another 10 entries plus 3 prize wheel spins.
  • Complete the training in October and show your badge: Receive 20 raffle entries.

Weekly Themes to Keep You Engaged

Each week of Cybersecurity Awareness Month highlights a theme, from creating stronger passwords and using Duo two-factor authentication to spotting phishing scams, protecting research and keeping devices updated. These themes provide simple, actionable steps that strengthen both your personal security and the protection of university data.

Stay Secure, Pirates

Cybersecurity Awareness Month is not just about one-time training or prizes. It is about building habits that protect you every day. By completing the training, participating in on-campus events and following the weekly theme, you’ll gain the skills to protect yourself and the Seton Hall community from digital threats.
