Social Work Students and Alumna are Elected to Three Positions on the Board of Directors of a Statewide Professional Association

Senior Thomas Cadmus

The New Jersey Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW-NJ) held their 2019 elections and two current Seton Hall students and one alumna will be representing the Chapter on the Board of Directors.

Thomas Cadmus was elected as BSW Student Representative. He is a senior undergraduate student double majoring in social work and religious studies. He is the current president of the BSW Student Social Work Association and is active in his community, volunteering for the Daughters of Miriam Center for the Aged in Clifton, NJ.

Graduate Student Megan O'Brien

Megan O'Brien was elected as the MSW Student Representative. She is currently a student in the Master of Social Work (MSW) program. She serves on the Graduate Student Social Work Association and is active as a Junior Board Member for the Pullman Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles, CA.

Student representatives keep the Board of Directors connected to the next generation of social workers. They represent our Baccalaureate and Master level programs ensuring that student voices are represented, and the Chapter is connected to their needs. Student representatives serve one-year terms.

Alumna Sierra Spriggs '16

Seton Hall alumna, Sierra Spriggs was elected as the Northeast Regional Representative, which serves to meet the needs of Bergen/Passaic, Essex, Hudson and Union Counties. Sierra majored in social work at Seton Hall, graduating in 2016. She then completed her MSW degree from Columbia University. She is currently employed as a Clinical Case Manager at the Youth Consultation Services. She is also currently the Co-Chair of the Essex County Unit of NASW-NJ where she has worked to bring dynamic events and speakers to the membership.

Regional representatives serve as the voice of our regional units on the NASW Board of Directors. They represent the diverse needs and perspectives of their respective geographic areas and sit on a variety of committees ensuring that our diverse membership has a voice at the table. Regional representatives serve a two-year term.

NASW-NJ is a diverse membership organization that promotes, develops, and strengthens the professional practice of social work and social workers. Through advocacy and public policy, NASW-NJ affects progressive social change and social justice for individuals, families, and communities. NASW-NJ is an administrative branch of the National Association of Social Workers, Inc. (NASW).

The undergraduate and graduate social work programs are so proud of its leaders!
