Psychology Professor Hosts Podcast Series on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

Portrait photo of Marianne Lloyd.Marianne Lloyd, Ph.D., of the Psychology Department recently completed a nine-episode mini-series on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) for the AskPsychSessions podcast. She interviewed faculty from a variety of institutions and career stages about everything from syllabus construction, to advising, to better classroom discussions.

The goal of the series was to make sure all faculty had a starting point for those who have not formerly incorporated EDI into their pedagogical practices or to increase these efforts for those who already do. Although the overall series is geared toward psychology teaching, many of these episodes contain helpful suggestions for teaching in any discipline. Lloyd has been co-hosting episodes of the podcast since late April and also completed a series on learning from the pandemic teaching experience of spring as well as episodes on representation, alternate grading approaches, and mentoring new faculty.

"One of the reasons I was excited to co-host a podcast is portability. Unlike a journal article that requires focused attention, podcasts make great listening during driving, exercise, or household chores. Plus, the average episode also gets far more downloads than my typical article," notes Lloyd.

Lloyd has been teaching in the Department of Psychology at Seton Hall University since 2006. Prior to her arrival, she was a postdoctoral fellow at Temple University for one year after receiving her Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology in 2005. In addition to frequently teaching statistics in the department, she also teaches the CORE 1101 Journey of Transformation course and supervises master's theses in the University's M.S. Experimental Psychology program. Four of these students have gone on to doctoral programs in cognitive psychology or related fields. Strongly extroverted, she enjoys collaborations and truly loves to learn.
