How to Get Involved

There are many ways to get involved in theatre at Seton Hall University. You can stay in the loop by following us on Instagram (@shu_theatre), joining our mailing list (Mailing List Sign-Up), and signing up for text updates through Remind (text @shuthea to 81010).

Auditions

If you are interested in acting, auditioning for productions is a great way to get involved. There are performance opportunities with both the SHU Theatre program productions coordinated by Faculty/Administration, as well as with the student-produced and student-directed productions put on by the Theatre Council. Auditions for both are open to all students, regardless of major or experience. You can find audition notices on our Instagram, be notified of them through email, or receive updates via text by joining our Remind.

Tech & Crew

At Seton Hall, we try to promote a well-rounded community, so we highly encourage tech involvement, regardless of experience. Everyone is welcome to assist at shop hours, which are every Friday in the U-Center Theater from 12 - 4 p.m.. Shop hours are a designated time for working on production needs like set-building, costumes, and tech. It is also a good way to meet the students and faculty involved in theater.

Every show at Seton Hall needs crew members backstage working on lights, sound, costumes, makeup and so much more. If you would like to work on a specific production, you can reach out to our Production Manager Emma Morris (emma.morris1@student.shu.edu) detailing the position you are interested in. Even if you do not have a particular production in mind, you can still reach out and be kept in the loop about specific opportunities tailored to your discipline!

Theatre Council

The Theatre Council, a co-curricular activity of the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media, is always looking for new members, regardless of major. The Council plays a significant role in helping to develop theatre at Seton Hall. It produces student-led projects throughout the year and builds a sense of community between actors and crew alike. Membership is based upon attendance of general council meetings, held on the first Monday of every month, as well as tech involvements (which can range from attending shop hours, working crew for a production, or another specific accommodation.)

There are also many theatre opportunities off campus in New York and New Jersey. Seton Hall students participate in internship programs with The New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, The Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn and many others. The College of Human Development, Culture, and Media offers a wide variety of wonderful internship opportunities locally and in New York.
