About the College

Established in 2023, the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media (CHDCM) unites faculty, students and programs working in five key fields: the arts, communication, education, leadership and mental health. The College's extensive academic portfolio enables students to either gain depth in a specific discipline or take advantage of a range of exclusive interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Regardless of the path taken, CHDCM students' education is further augmented by the one-of-a-kind opportunities made possible by the College's collection of centers and institutes, such as its groundbreaking Center for Sports Media. Thanks to exceptional faculty, a dynamic academic portfolio, and nationally recognized co- and extra-curricular organizations, students in the CHDCM are equipped to serve as leaders, professionally and in their communities. Many contemporary challenges our society faces today appear unsolvable because higher education has historically approached them in silos. Addressing these multidimensional problems requires complex, interdisciplinary thinking, and specific attention to the intersections between and among the fields united under the CHDCM. The College focuses specific attention on the synergies among education, communication, and human development, commonalities that allow its graduates to intervene meaningfully in various systems — ranging from law enforcement to education to counseling to communication and media to leadership — and chart a new path for the future. CHDCM graduates therefore leave Seton Hall ready to make an impact on their professions and on the lives of those around them, committed to the communal work of making a better, more educated, more just world.

The College's collaborative ethos is the hallmark of a Seton Hall education: an interdisciplinary approach to learning that grounds students firmly in their chosen discipline while expanding their perspectives through collaboration — setting them apart in their ability to chart new professional paths and contribute meaningfully to the common good.
