
Sport Management Student Association
Initiated in October 1999, the Sport Management Student Association (SMSA) is open
                              to any Seton Hall undergraduate student who is interested in the sport business. The
                              organization is totally student-run, under the supervision of a sport management faculty
                              advisor. The objectives of the SMSA are to provide networking opportunities within
                              the Sport Management department, recruit incoming students, interact with key members
                              of the sport industry community, further the knowledge of the sport management profession,
                              and act in a way commensurate with the mission and objectives of Seton Hall University.
                              
                              The President of the organization is Nicholas Coppola.
Organization Activities Include
Annual SMSA Blood Drive ('02-'09)  Since 2002, the SMSA has sponsored an annual Blood Drive through the Red Cross each
                              fall. In the past eight years, more than  2400 pints of blood have been collected,
                              saving more than 7200 lives.
                               
                              Annual SMSA Trip:
                              Each spring the SMSA takes a weekend trip to a sports venue. During the 2007 trip
                              to the Baseball Hall of Fame, the organization was treated to a lecture given by sports
                              marketing expert, Mike Veeck.

Annual Sport Trivia Night
                              Based on your typical trivia show you might find on television, the SMSA Sport Trivia
                              Night features 12 students from various organizations on campus competing for glory,
                              honor, and prizes. In 2008 and 2009 the event was hosted by sports broadcaster Gus
                              Johnson.
                               
                              Other events and trips have included: New Jersey Nets Basketball Games, Madison Square Garden Tour, Giants 5-K Run / Draft
                              Day, Pirate Pandemonium, Army-Navy Football Game, NFL Draft Trip, Trip to Sport Management
                              Seminar at Robert Morris University, Metlife Stadium Private Tour, Marty Appel Book
                              Signing of his acclaimed book "Pinstripe Empire", Careers in Media & Entertainment
                              Panel (Guests included representatives from ESPN, NBC, Nelligan Sports Marketing,
                              NY Red Bulls, MSG, and CBS Radio), Annual End of the Year trip to Philadelphia Phillies
                              Game
                              
                              Sport Management Honor Society:
                              Alpha Chi Lambda is the Sport Management honor society, founded at Seton Hall and
                              sponsored by the SMSA and the Center for Sport Management.  Students meeting set requirements
                              are inducted after their junior or senior year.
