M.S.S.L.P. Admission Requirements
The M.S.S.L.P. program welcomes your application and questions about the admissions process. All applications must be submitted through the Communication Science and Disorders Centralized Application Service (CSDCAS).
Deadline: February 1st is the application deadline.
Please Note:
- Students with incomplete prerequisites (see below) may apply. However, they must state how they will satisfy the prerequisites prior to the start of the program.
- All undergraduate prerequisite courses must be completed no longer than 10 years prior to the application date.
M.S.S.L.P. Admission Requirements and Prerequisites:
- Completion of the Seton Hall University M.S.S.L.P program application through CSDCAS.
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution
- Cumulative undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.2 on a 4-point scale
- Three letters of recommendation, preferably from academic and/or clinical/fieldwork professors and supervisors
- 25 hours of observation with an ASHA Certified Speech-Language Pathologist (CCC-SLP) These observation hours can be accrued during in-person and/or virtual sessions and will meet this requirement as long as the sessions are supervised and appropriate documentation is made available.
- Maximum 1,000-word personal statement
- If English is not the native language, a student must submit a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Score Report documenting a paper-based score of 550 or above, a computer-based score of 213 or above, or an internet-based score of 79 or above.
- All students must read, sign, understand and meet the Standards of Essential Functions of the School of Health and Medical Sciences and the M.S.S.L.P. program (PDF).
- Completion of each of the following pre-requisite courses with a grade of "C" or better:
- One English composition course
- One statistics course
- One course in a social or behavioral science (typically these include courses in psychology, sociology or cultural anthropology)
- One course in biological science (typically a course in biology, human anatomy and physiology, neuroanatomy and neurophysiology, human genetics, veterinary science)
- One course in physical science (must be a course in physics or chemistry)
- Pre-professional coursework:*
- Introduction to Communication Disorders (3 credits)
- Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech and Swallowing Mechanism (3 credits)
- Hearing and Speech Science (3 credits)
- Language Development (3 credits)
- Phonetics (3 credits)
- Audiology (3 credits)
*About required pre-professional coursework (1-6 above):
- For applicants with an undergraduate major other than speech-language pathology or communication sciences and disorders, completion of the above six pre-professional courses with a grade of "B" or better is required.
- For applicants with an undergraduate major in speech-language pathology or communication sciences and disorders, the content of undergraduate coursework must be equivalent to the six courses listed above, with a grade of "B" or better.
How to Apply:
- Complete the CSDCAS online application. All admission materials must be sent to CSDCAS. Do not send anything directly to Seton Hall University.
