Video Available of Panel on Duty to Plan – After COVID  

The expert panel, "Taking Seriously the Duty to Plan: The Future of Health, Education, Sports, and Politics After COVID," is now available on video.

The panel featured Dr. Joseph E. Nyre, president of Seton Hall University; Mr. Robert Garrett, the CEO of Hackensack Meridian Health; Professor Charles Grantham, former executive director of the National Basketball Players Association and director of the Center for Sport Management at Seton Hall's Stillman School of Business; and Professor Molly Patterson, department chair of Political Science at Aquinas College.

The panel of multi-disciplinary experts was brought together virtually to discuss how the ethical norm which is well entrenched in the field of bioethics – the duty to plan – is taken up in these other sectors. Panelists discussed what they saw as the ethical issues on the horizon, including in education, health, sports, and public policy.

The panel was part of the COVID Ethics Series, which was recently discussed in the European Journal of Medicine and Natural Sciences and focuses on the various impacts of COVID-19 throughout society.

Convened by Professor Bryan Pilkington, this edition of the series took place on October 20, 2020.

Pilkington is an associate professor in the School of Health and Medical Sciences at Seton Hall University and the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine, serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Medicine and Philosophy and the Editorial Advisory Boards of HealthCare Ethics Committee Forum and Christian Bioethics, and is a Junior Scholar at the Paul Ramsey Institute.

The Series
Formed with the belief that we arrive at the best answers to challenging ethical questions by practically reasoning together, "Taking Seriously the Duty to Plan: The Future of Health, Education, Sports, and Politics After COVID" was the twelfth installment of this program.
