Seton Hall’s Catholic Studies Program was represented at the launch of the Scottish
Catholic Studies Arts Lab (SCAL) at the University of Glasgow on October 22, 2025.
Nancy Kajo, a double major in Political Science and Catholic Studies and Giselle Pineda, a Catholic Studies alumna who is now a graduate student in the Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology and Assistant Director of the University Core, presented at the event.
Dr. Ines Murzaku, Associated Staff Member of the Scottish Catholic Studies Arts Lab at the University of Glasgow, and Director of Catholic Studies Program at Seton Hall, also participated in the launch, delivering a presentation on “The Catholic Studies Movement in the United States,” which traced the development of Catholic Studies in light of Cardinal John Henry Newman’s (now Doctor of the Universal Church) vision of the university and its commitment to interdisciplinarity.
The Scottish Catholic Studies Arts Lab brings together scholars from across the University of Glasgow and beyond to explore the Catholic contribution to Scotland’s intellectual and cultural life. It serves as a hub for scholarly collaboration and high-profile events for both academic and public audiences, partnering with existing academic units to offer a robust program throughout the year.
Dr. Leonard Franch, one of the directors of the Scottish Catholic Studies Arts Lab said: “We are very excited and hopeful about the many possibilities this new Arts Lab can bring to the table. We look forward to working with partners at home and abroad in pursuit of this goal. Seton Hall’s Department of Catholic Studies will be one of our valued collaborators.
