Sicily, Calabria and Rome: 14 Cities in 13 Days, Plus Mt. Etna

Seton Hall University’s Catholic Studies Program invites you to step into living history—from ancient Greece and Rome to the heart
of today’s Church—on a carefully designed journey through Sicily, Calabria and Rome.
Led by Ines A. Murzaku, Ph.D., this 3‑credit study‑abroad program reaches places most travelers never see on their
own while keeping logistics effortless and cost‑effective. The program will be from
February 25–March 9, 2026.
Locations:
In just under two weeks, explore 14 cities/towns plus Mt. Etna: Palermo & Monreale
(Cathedral, Basilica of Monreale, Shrine of St. Rosalia); Erice; Agrigento (Valley
of the Temples); Piazza Armerina (Villa Romana del Casale); Taormina & Catania; Siracusa
& Ragusa; ferry to Reggio Calabria (Cathedral and the famed Riace Bronzes); Paravati
(tomb of Servant of God Natuzza Evolo and shrine to Our Lady) and Paola (Shrine of
St. Francis of Paola); then on to Rome for Baroque Rome, the Colosseum/Roman Forum,
a possible noon Angelus with Pope Leo in St. Peter’s Square and guided visits to St.
Paul Outside the Walls, St. John Lateran, St. Mary Major and more.
Academics & Credit:
Foundations of Christian Culture (CAST 3994), cross‑listed with CORE 3748, RELS 3208,
THEO 3994 and HONS seminar; the trip may also satisfy multiple degree requirements
(including Critical Thinking requirement in the College of Arts & Sciences). There
will be pre‑travel class meetings (schedule TBA).
Cost:
The trip will cost $5,100 – includes round‑trip Newark to Rome on United (plus in‑country
flights Rometo Palermo and Lamezia Terme to Rome); airline taxes/fees; centrally located
4‑star hotels with city taxes; daily buffet breakfast and dinner; private coach; all
entrance fees; English‑speaking guides and an escort throughout; tips and gratuities.
