The Political Consequences of Assassination: A Perspective of the American Secret Service  

Picture of American Secret ServiceOn Thursday, February 22nd, 2018, in Fahy 236, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. the Slavic Club, will be holding a lecture titled, "The Political Consequences of  Assassination: a Perspective of the American Secret Service," by Jerome A. Ballarotto.

Jerome A. Ballarotto is a former special agent of the United States Secret Service. He was appointed to the Secret Service at the age of 22 during the first presidential campaign after the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy. He left the Secret Service in 1976 to attend Seton Hall Law School. He graduated Cum Laude in 1979 when he became a New Jersey Deputy Attorney General and an Essex County Assistant Prosecutor. In 1983 he joined the U.S. Department of Justice as an Assistant United States Attorney. He has been an acclaimed criminal defense attorney for 30 years and the author of the award winning novel, Worthy of Trust and Confidence.

Mr. Ballarotto will share his experiences in the secret service during a period of dramatic social change both in and out of the organization. He will also share an overview of his analysis of the political consequences of assassinations, both successful and unsuccessful in the 20th century.

This lecture will be of great interest especially to our Diplomacy, History, Political Science and Russian students who would like to consider this line of work as their future profession or are interested in the historical and political significance of assassinations in America and elsewhere in the world.
