Esports Recap: Spring 2025 Season Highlights

Esports lab chairs Seton Hall Esports' Spring 2025 BIG EAST season has concluded, with the Pirates making strides across Overwatch 2, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and League of Legends. Despite roster challenges and fierce competition, Seton Hall secured playoff spots in all three titles, showcasing their determination and progress. With strong performances throughout the season, Seton Hall Esports is building momentum as they look ahead to future competitions.

Overwatch 2

Seton Hall’s Overwatch 2 squad made an impressive playoff run despite key roster shifts, ultimately falling 3-1 to DePaul in the BIG EAST semifinals. This was a solid achievement, especially considering the mid-season loss of their main tank. The adjustment forced DPS player 'Audacity' to transition into the tank role while the team also integrated two new players into the lineup.

Despite these challenges, the Pirates showcased their adaptability and depth, proving their resilience throughout the tournament. Their Final Four finish underscores their potential as they continue refining their roster and strategies.

Although their BIG EAST season has concluded, Overwatch 2 remains in action with their Garden State Esports (GSE) campaign, with the next round set to be hosted by Seton Hall on March 25.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Seton Hall’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team secured a 4th place finish in the BIG EAST, capping off a competitive season. They defeated Creighton 2-1 to clinch their playoff spot but ultimately fell 2-0 to DePaul in the following round.

While their BIG EAST season has concluded, the team is far from done. They will continue competing in the GSE circuit, with their next matchup taking place on March 25 at Seton Hall. With captain Abraham Ramos leading the charge, they’ll be looking to make a deep run in the tournament.

League of Legends

The League of Legends team had one of the most impressive improvements of any Seton Hall squad this year. Under the leadership of Coach Jacob Black, they went from 0 wins last season to a Top 4 finish in the BIG EAST.

Their playoff run saw them advance past Creighton due to a forfeit, before falling 2-0 to Villanova. While the season didn’t end with a championship, the significant progress from last year proves that the team is refining its strategies and building a strong foundation for future success.

Coach Jacob Black’s leadership and the team’s commitment to improvement is evident and the team is fired up for further improvement during the off season. With continued growth, they aim to bring home the BIG EAST championship next season.
