Alex Requena, a doctoral student in the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media (CHDCM) and an adjunct professor in the Stillman School of Business at Seton Hall University, recently returned from Kenya after supporting the National Football League (NFL) in the organization of the NFL Flag Africa Championship and the NFL's International Player Pathway (IPP) Program.
During the event, Requena was responsible for event operations and coordinating with local authorities, helping ensure the successful delivery of two of the NFL's flagship international development initiatives. The programs brought together talented athletes from across the African continent while advancing the league's continued investment in growing American football globally.

The NFL Flag Africa Championship showcases emerging talent and expands opportunities for young athletes, while the IPP Program identifies elite prospects with the potential to compete at the highest levels of professional football. Among the participants was Josh Weru, who was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2026 NFL Draft through the IPP Program. Together, these initiatives reflect the NFL's long-term commitment to expanding the sport internationally and creating new opportunities for athletes outside the United States, particularly as flag football prepares to make its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

At Seton Hall, Requena incorporates these international experiences into both his teaching and doctoral research. His work with the NFL provides valuable real-world examples that enrich classroom discussions and help prepare students for careers in the increasingly global sports industry.
