As specialists in sports medicine, athletic trainers prevent, evaluate and intervene when patients and athletes face injuries or other medical conditions. In the process, they touch the life of each person they treat.

Our career-oriented Master of Science in Athletic Training (M.S.A.T.) degree program is the state's first entry-level master's program with accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education.

We put you in the field right away: clinical rotations begin your first semester, and you'll work in a variety of settings before graduation from our athletic training program.

Our athletic training program’s graduates consistently receive job offers after graduation and their Board of Certification first-time pass rate is well above the national average. They now work with athletes and physically active individuals in well-known organizations including NCAA sports teams, the NFL's Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots, Cirque du Soleil, as well many public and private high schools.

Curriculum

Through interdisciplinary education, hands-on clinical experiences and intensive research opportunities, our students learn to focus on the unique needs of each patient.

In courses such as Orthopedic Clinical Medicine and Imaging and Targeted Applications of Treatment in the Spine, you'll learn from experienced University faculty and clinicians. Through fieldwork opportunities, you will bring your classroom knowledge to dynamic and fast-paced environments throughout the area - from local high schools, to professional sports franchises, to our own NCAA Division I sports teams.

Admission Requirements

Early review applications are accepted beginning January 15.

Deadlines:

  • March 15 is the deadline for application to the M.S.A.T. program.
  • Applications will be reviewed until the class is full.

Program Faculty

Our faculty are Certified Athletic Trainers (ATCs) who have significant clinical, teaching and research experience. They are involved in local, regional and national athletic training and sports medicine networks and maintain strong connections with practicing ATCs, athletic directors, team physicians and other industry professionals. As a graduate student, you will also work side-by-side with faculty on clinical research projects and community outreach to strengthen your athletic training skills.
