WSOU and Tito’s Burritos & Wings Unveil “89 Fries”

Date: November 21, 2019

WSOU 89.5 FM and Tito’s Burritos & Wings have once again joined forces to create a culinary sensation. Inspired by the station’s dial position at 89.5, the staff of WSOU and the chefs at Tito’s collaborated to cook up the “89 Fries Quesadilla.”

The iconic Seton Hall University student radio station and Tito’s Burritos & Wings have enjoyed a friendship ever since the storied New Jersey eatery opened a location in South Orange. Over the years the two organizations have bonded over food, music, swag, live remotes, and more. It was only natural that the relationship would move into the kitchen.

The 89 Fries Quesadilla evolved from a suggestion by WSOU sports director Dalton Allison. Refined by Allison’s fellow student managers and then the kitchen wizards at Tito’s, this limited time menu item features fried organic chicken strips, buffalo sauce, cheeses, hand cut fries and blue cheese dressing inside two homemade Tito’s tortillas.

“I’ve been listening to WSOU since I was a teenager and the creativity of the students on the air or in the kitchen continues to impress me,” said Victoria Reyes, Tito’s Director of Operations. “Every time we work with WSOU, we’ve been impressed by the station’s professionalism and ability to have fun. Our customers loved both the idea and taste of the Fat DJ Burrito and I expect the 89 Fries Quesadilla to be popular as well.”

As Promotions Director, Tayla Frey was tasked with leading the effort to dream up the next creation with Tito’s. “We wanted something that reflected station’s personality as a heavy metal station,” Frey noted. “A delicious quesadilla with a fiery kick proved to be perfect. All of us at WSOU are grateful to Tito’s for our ongoing collaboration. It’s fun to make something new that people love to eat.”

“The existence of the 89 Fries Quesadilla is validation that radio continues to play a vital role in the local community,” said General Manager Mark Maben. “When a business names a menu item after a local DJ and or radio station, it’s a reflection of the deep connection that exists between listeners and the station. Our students are learning there are many ways to connect with listeners to create a lasting bond.”

This is not the first time Tito’s Burritos & Wings and WSOU have collaborated in the kitchen. The last WSOU-inspired item was the “Fat DJ Burrito.” In the tradition of the Jersey-born “fat sandwich,” the burrito featured chicken bites, fries, cheese, chipotle mayo, and hot sauce.

The 89 Fries Quesadilla is served at all Tito’s Burritos & Wings locations and is available through January 15, 2020. More information can be found at
