Financial Aid

There are a variety of ways to support your graduate studies. Many students take advantage of loans to help fund their education. A number of private, state, and federal student loan programs are available. To learn more, contact the University's Financial Aid Office, located in Bayley Hall, at (800) 222-7183.

To be considered for any federal, state or private financial aid program, U.S. permanent residents and citizens must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA application can be completed online at studentaid.gov. When applying, please be sure to list Seton Hall University as your college of interest. The Seton Hall University school code for FAFSA is 002632.

Incoming students who plan to continue professional employment while pursuing their graduate studies may be eligible for tuition remission assistance through their employer. We recommend that you consult with your human resources department to explore available opportunities.

Graduate Assistantships, Scholarships and Fellowships

The School of Diplomacy and Seton Hall University are pleased to offer a variety of financial and tuition-based awards to incoming and current students. Award value and eligibility vary. Awards for incoming graduate students include the following. Additional awards can be viewed here »

The School of Diplomacy also serves as a host institution for various prestigious external scholarships, including the Fulbright Scholarship, Pickering Fellowship and more. We encourage you to browse and consider the options highlighted here, among others, independently.

Seton Hall Graduate Assistantships

Deadline: Varies based on availability of openings.

Award: Up to 12 Seton Hall credits per semester and monthly stipend.

Eligible: Accepted and matriculated full-time graduate students at Seton Hall University.

Application: In addition to completing Seton Hall's electronic graduate application, candidates must complete a Graduate Assistant application. For details, available opportunities and application portal, visit the Graduate Assistantships page.

Description: Graduate Assistantships are university-wide positions available to domestic and international students. The University makes available a limited number of these teaching, research and administrative assistantships each year to full-time, matriculated graduate students. Assistantships are competitive and granted for one academic year. These positions may be renewable for an additional year, based on the recommendation of the hiring department. Typically, an assistantship includes tuition remission for a maximum of 12 credits per semester and a monthly stipend. Graduate Assistants generally spend 20 hours per week doing directed professional or research work in a University department.
 

School of Diplomacy Research Assistantship

Deadline: Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until all awards have been distributed. Early application is recommended.

*Note: Priority deadline is February 20.

Award: Six Diplomacy graduate credits per semester, up to 12 credits per academic year.

Eligible: Entering full-time M.A. students with a GPA of 3.7/4.0 or higher and GRE test scores above the 50th percentile (if applicable).

Application: Candidates must complete Seton Hall's electronic graduate application and express interest under the "Research Assistantship" option. All required admissions materials including test scores are due before consideration will be given. Applicants must include one paragraph in their graduate application statement of interest indicating top qualities that would make them an ideal Research Assistant.

Description: Research Assistants will be matched with one of our distinguished faculty or senior administrators to assist with research or project management for 10 hours per week. These merit-based awards are renewable for a second year of study provided that recipients maintain a 3.7 grade point average, full-time student status (9 diplomacy credits per semester minimum) and perform their research duties satisfactorily.


School of Diplomacy Graduate Fellowships

Deadline: Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until all awards have been distributed. Early application is recommended.

Award: Three Diplomacy graduate credits per semester, up to six credits per academic year.

Eligible: Entering full-time fall semester M.A. students with a 3.5/4.0 or higher GPA and GRE test scores above the 50th percentile (if applicable).

Application: Candidates must complete Seton Hall's electronic graduate application and express interest under the "Graduate Fellowship" option. All required admissions materials including test scores are due before consideration will be given. Applicants must include one paragraph in their graduate application statement of interest indicating top qualities that make them strong Graduate Fellow candidates.

Description: Fellows will be expected to participate in professional engagements and projects of the School concurrent to their graduate study. Fellowships are renewable for a second year provided that recipients maintain a 3.5 grade point average, continuous engagement with the School as expected and full-time student status (9 diplomacy credits per semester minimum).
 

School of Diplomacy Paul D. Coverdell Fellowship

Deadline: Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until all awards have been distributed. Early application is recommended.

Award: Up to six Diplomacy graduate credits per semester, up to 12 credits per academic year.

Eligible: Returned Peace Corps Volunteers enrolled in the M.A. in Diplomacy and International Relations program.

Application: Candidates must complete Seton Hall's electronic graduate application and must include one paragraph in their personal statement of interest indicating top qualities that make them strong Coverdell Fellow candidates. In addition to the required admissions documents, applicants must attach a copy of their Peace Corps DOS in the online application or email it to diplomat@shu.edu.

Segal AmeriCorps Education Award Matching Program

Deadline: Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until all awards have been distributed. Early application is recommended.

*Note: Priority deadline is February 20.

Award: Three to twelve Diplomacy graduate credits.

Eligible: Current AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps alumni who are admitted to a Seton Hall School of Diplomacy graduate program.

Application:  The $75 graduate application fee will be waived for current volunteers and alumni.  Candidates must reference AmeriCorps experience in their personal statement that accompanies the graduate application.

Description: As part of the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award Match Program, current AmeriCorps members and alumni who are admitted to a Seton Hall School of Diplomacy and International Relations graduate program will receive a minimum scholarship award equal to three academic credits and up to a maximum of 12 credits for highly qualified applicants.  Awards are contingent upon the number of applications we receive and future availability of funds. 

 

Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship Matching Program

Deadline: Pickering Fellowship - September 17, 2019; Diplomacy - Early application is recommended. First priority deadline is February 20. 
Award: Combined award will cover 100% graduate tuition for the M.A. in Diplomacy and International Relations, provided that selected students maintain good academic standing as full-time M.A. candidates. 

Eligible: Diplomacy graduate program - Entering full-time, fall semester M.A. students; Pickering Fellowship -  see eligibility criteria.

Application: To be considered for the matching program, interested candidates must complete Seton Hall's electronic graduate application and reference the Pickering Fellowship in their personal statement. Candidates must also follow the application instructions for the Pickering Fellowship

Description: Seton Hall's School of Diplomacy's partnership with the Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship will provide 100% graduate tuition for the M.A. in Diplomacy and International Relations program. Selected students will be matched as research fellows with our members of our faculty based on their specialization(s) of interest. 

 

Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Graduate Fellowship Matching Program

Deadline:
 Rangel Graduate Fellowship Program - September 24, 2019; Diplomacy graduate program - Early application is recommended. First priority deadline is February 20. 

Award: Combined award will cover 100% graduate tuition for the M.A. in Diplomacy and International Relations, provided that selected students maintain good academic standing as full-time M.A. candidates. 

Eligible: Diplomacy - Entering full-time, fall semester M.A. students; Rangel Graduate Fellowship-  see eligibility criteria.
Application: To be considered for the matching program, interested candidates must complete Seton Hall's electronic graduate application and reference the Rangel Graduate Fellowship Program in their personal statement. Candidates must also follow the application instructions for the Rangel Graduate Fellowship Program

Description: Seton Hall's School of Diplomacy's partnership with the Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program will provide 100% graduate tuition for the M.A. in Diplomacy and International Relations program. Selected students will be matched as research fellows with our members of our faculty based on their specialization(s) of interest. 

 

Payne Graduate Fellowship Matching Program

Deadline: Payne Fellowship -  2020 deadline has passed; Diplomacy graduate program - early application is recommended. First priority deadline is February 20. 

Award: Combined award will cover 100% graduate tuition for the M.A. in Diplomacy and International Relations, provided that selected students maintain good academic standing. 

Eligible: Diplomacy - Entering fall semester M.A. students; Payne Graduate Fellowship-  see eligibility criteria.

Application: To be considered for the matching program, interested candidates must complete Seton Hall's electronic graduate application and reference the Payne Graduate Fellowship in their personal statement. Candidates must also follow the application instructions for thePayne Graduate Fellowship Program

Description: Seton Hall's School of Diplomacy's partnership with the Payne Graduate Fellowship Program will provide 100% graduate tuition for the M.A. in Diplomacy and International Relations program. Selected students will be matched as research fellows with our members of our faculty based on their specialization(s) of interest. 


Florence and Jacob Krawiec Graduate Fellowship

Deadline: Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the award is distributed. Early application is recommended.

*Note: Priority deadline is March 31.

Award: Three to six Diplomacy credits per semester/ six to twelve credits per academic year based on funding availability, provided that Fellow maintains full-time enrollment status.

Eligible: Entering full-time, fall semester M.A. students with demonstrated interest and/or engagement with Polish tradition, history, culture, and/or community life.

Application: To be considered for the fellowship, interested candidates must complete Seton Hall's electronic graduate application. In addition to their personal statement, candidates must include an essay (no longer than 1000 words) describing his/her engagement and interest in Polish tradition, history, culture, and/or community life.

Description: The School of Diplomacy and International Relations at Seton Hall University is pleased to announce the establishment of the Florence and Jacob Krawiec Graduate Fellowship, which will be awarded to incoming fall M.A. students who demonstrate a commitment to and/or interest in Polish tradition, history, culture, and/or community life.


Public Policy and International Affairs (PPIA) Fellowship

Deadline: November 1

Award: When applying to a PPIA network graduate school like the Seton Hall School of Diplomacy, Fellows are able to waive their application fee and, if accepted, are guaranteed a minimum, one-time financial award of $5,000. Benefits are available to Fellows for at least five years after the completion of their undergraduate degree.

Application: Prospective applicants must complete the PPIA application (see PPIA website for details), and complete Seton Hall's electronic graduate application.

Description: All prospective PPIA Fellows are expected to dedicate themselves to the traditions and objectives of the PPIA Fellowship Program, have an abiding commitment to public service and contribute to more diverse perspectives in public policy and international affairs. For additional details and benefits, visit the PPIA website.
