Psychological Studies

The M.A. in Psychological Studies provides students with a program grounded in basic theory and methods of psychology, promoting exploration of diverse fields of psychology, with an emphasis on psychopathology and wellness. The program introduces students to the many diverse fields of psychology and prepares them for further academic and professional pursuits.

The M.A. in Psychological Studies is a 36-credit program, with 24 degree requirement credits and 12 credits within one of the following concentration areas:

  • Applied Behavior Analysis
  • Individualized (Student and adviser select courses to meet student's goals)
  • Psychology of Sport and Exercise
  • School Psychology

The program offers a flexible curriculum that allows students interested in psychological research and practice to specialize in school psychology, applied behavior analysis, psychology of sport and exercise, or pursue an individualized concentration. This makes it an excellent option for students exploring their career options across a wide range of psychological fields.

Students gain a strong foundation in ethics and multiculturalism, preparing them to pursue advanced specialist or doctoral programs (Ed.S., Ph.D., or Psy.D.) that lead to state licensure and certification in psychology and counseling.

The M.A. in Psychological Studies program at Seton Hall University is known for pioneering the integration of ethics into the psychology curriculum as early as 1980. Students engage in individualized independent research projects and benefit from the insights of visiting scholars who are internationally recognized for their contributions to the field. This global perspective enhances students’ understanding of current psychology research and supports their development as informed and ethical practitioners.
