Regarded by many to be a preseason Top 25 team in the country, the Seton Hall men’s basketball team released another strong non-conference schedule for the 2017-2018 season on Monday.
The Pirates’ schedule is highlighted by matchups against five teams that made it into the postseason in 2016-2017. Four of those games will be against opponents who made last season’s NCAA Tournament, including a trip to the KFC Yum! Center to take on Louisville on Dec. 3.
The Hall will open things up with Fairleigh Dickinson at the Prudential Center on Nov. 10 in a non-bracketed NIT Season Tipoff game, followed up by two more home games with Monmouth, which is also a non-bracketed game of the NIT Season Tipoff, and Indiana in the Gavitt Games. The visit by Indiana on Nov. 15 will be the first time the Pirates have hosted a Big Ten team at the Prudential Center not named Rutgers.
The bracketed portion of the NIT Season Tipoff over Thanksgiving weekend will see the first matchup between SHU alum and Rhode Island head coach Danny Hurley’s URI Rams. Hurley was a member of the 1993 BIG EAST championship team. The second game of the weekend will take place on Nov. 24 against either Virginia or Vanderbilt. Each team the Pirates will face in the NIT Season Tipoff made the NCAA Tournament last year.
Speaking of Rutgers, Seton Hall will travel to Piscataway on Dec. 16 where Angel Delgado and company will look to bring the Hardwood Classic trophy back to South Orange for the fourth straight year. The Pirates have won four of the last five meetings with Rutgers dating back to the 2012-2013 season.
The Pirates will take part in the UA Reunion Classic at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 30 against Texas Tech. They will also see VCU at the Prudential Center as a part of the second edition of the Never Forget Games on Dec. 9.
In total, the Pirates will play eight games at the Prudential Center and five away/neutral site contests, with only one contest outside of the metro area.
