Pirates Fall To Rider At Home

Date: August 29, 2017

The Pirates couldn’t ride a strong first half to a victory against the Rider Broncs on Monday night, as they fell 2-1 to the visitors.

The Pirates came out fast to start the game and had a few decent chances to put the ball away early. The best opportunity came in the 11th minute when Gabriel Viola found Noah Teperow with a through ball down the wing, who swung in a cross to a leaping Spencer Burkhardt and he put it in the back of the net to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.

The Pirates continued their strong first half performance when Andres Arcila was able to play Viola through on goal with a pass between multiple defenders. Viola found himself in the middle of the box with the ball but was unable to score as his shot hit off the post and bounced across the goal before a Rider defender cleared it away.

As the half was coming to an end Seton Hall had a couple more opportunities to score coming from a Corey Burkhardt long distance shot with 4 minutes to play and a John Philbin shot that trickled in the box in front of the goal but the Pirates were unable to reach it and score. Seton Hall went into half with a 1-0 lead.

The second half was a much different story for both sides as the Broncs came out much more energized and the Pirates had a much tougher time getting the ball forward in attack and defending. The Broncs had a great chance early as they took a shot off a volley that was well struck but deflected by Steven Catudal into the crossbar to keep the Pirates’ lead after 55 minutes of play.

The lead didn’t last long, however, as a Rider corner kick ended up in an equalizing goal for the Broncs after 60 minutes. Shortly after their first goal the Broncs found themselves in another great position and they took full advantage as they took the lead 2-1 against the Pirates just 8 minutes later.

The Pirates next game is Friday September 1st on the road at Stony Brook.
